⚡ The EV Maintenance Core

While you skip the engine shop, you cannot skip these four critical areas:

1. The Tires (Your Biggest Expense)

EVs are heavier than gas cars due to the massive battery packs, and they deliver instant torque. This combination can eat through tires 20% faster than usual.

• Rotation: Every 5,000–8,000 miles is mandatory to prevent uneven wear.

• Pressure: Keep them at the manufacturer's spec to maximize your range (under-inflated tires kill your battery efficiency).

2. Thermal Management (Battery Coolant)

Your battery needs to stay in its "Goldilocks zone" (not too hot, not too cold). Most EVs use a liquid cooling system.

• The Task: Check coolant levels periodically.

• The Interval: While some brands claim "lifetime" coolant, many require a flush/replacement around the 100,000-mile or 5-year mark.

3. The 12V Battery (The Silent Killer)

Even though you have a massive high-voltage battery to drive the car, you still have a standard 12V lead-acid battery to run the lights, sensors, and computers.

• The Risk: If this small battery dies, your EV won't even "start" to engage the big battery. Replace it every 3–5 years just like a gas car.

4. Regenerative Braking & Fluid

Because EVs use "Regen" (the motor slows the car down), your physical brake pads can last 100,000 miles or more. However:

• Brake Fluid: It still absorbs moisture over time. You should flush the fluid every 2 years to ensure your emergency stopping power remains crisp.

🌬️ The "Hidden" Maintenance

• Cabin Air Filter: EVs are sealed tight for aerodynamics. To keep the air fresh and your HVAC efficient, swap the cabin filter every 12–24 months.

• Software Updates: Think of this as a "digital tune-up." Always install "Over-the-Air" (OTA) updates—they often include tweaks that improve battery range and charging speeds.

• Wiper Fluid: The one thing that never changes! Keep it topped up, as EVs often use more sensors that need a clean windshield to "see" the road.
