Welcome back to Prompt Engineering Lesson 3!
Now that you have mastered the basics and learned how to assign expert roles to the AI, it is time to look at the other side of the equation: Output Constraints. This lesson will teach you how to dictate the exact format, length, and style of the AI's response so you never have to waste time editing it.

Lesson 3: The Power of Constraints (Controlling the Output)
1. Introduction
If you don't tell the AI how to format its answer, it will default to long, wordy paragraphs. Constraint Prompting is the practice of setting strict rules for the AI's output. By defining boundaries, you force the AI to be precise, concise, and highly organized.
2. Common Types of Constraints
You can restrict the AI using several parameters:
Length Constraints: "Keep it under 50 words" or "Write exactly 3 sentences."
Format Constraints: "Respond only in a Markdown table," "Use a bulleted list," or "Output in raw JSON code."
Tone/Style Constraints: "Write in a professional, corporate tone" or "Explain like I am a 10-year-old."
Negative Constraints: Telling the AI what not to do (e.g., "Do not use corporate jargon" or "Do not include any introductory text".
3. The Blueprint for Constraint Prompting
When adding constraints, place them clearly at the bottom of your prompt. Use clear bullet points so the AI engine registers them as hard rules.

Constraints:
- Provide exactly 3 bullet points.
- Keep each bullet point under 15 words.

Lesson 2
Persona Prompting (The Power of Roles)
1. Introduction
By default, an AI tries to give a balanced, general answer. However, you can command the AI to take on a specific persona, profession, or personality. This is called Persona Prompting.
When you give the AI a role, it changes its tone, vocabulary, and depth of knowledge to match that specific expert.

2. Why Use Personas?
If you ask a general question, you get an encyclopedia answer. If you assign a persona, you get expert advice.
Look how the exact same question gets completely different answers based on the role:
Question: "How should I approach a new business idea?"
As a Creative Artist: It will tell you to focus on passion, unique visuals, and storytelling.
As a Financial Advisor: It will tell you to analyze cash flow, market risks, and return on investment (ROI).
3. The Formula for Persona Prompting
To create a great persona prompt, use this simple formula:

Act as a [Professional/Role] with [X years of experience]. Your tone should be [Tone]."

Bad Prompt (No Persona)
Give me advice on how to improve my website's traffic."

Good Prompt (Engineered Persona)
Act as an expert Senior SEO Consultant. Analyze my current challenge: I want to increase organic traffic for a social media community platform. Give me 3 highly practical, modern strategies."

Try this in your AI playground today:
1 Copy this prompt exactly: "Act as a tough, strict fitness trainer. Tell me why I shouldn't skip my workout today in 2 sentences."
2 Now change the role: "Act as a gentle, loving grandmother. Tell me why I shouldn't skip my workout today in 2 sentences."
Observe how the AI's entire personality and tone completely shift! Which persona felt more motivating to you?
