. Watch for warning signs*
- *Engine temperature gauge*: If it creeps past the halfway mark, pull over immediately. Turn off AC, turn heater on full blast to pull heat from the engine, and let it cool for 30 min before opening the hood.
- *Tyre bulges or weird noises*: Pull over right away. Hot roads make tyre failures much more likely.

*Take care of yourself*
- *Hydrate constantly*: Keep a water bottle in reach. Dehydration slows reaction time as much as 0.05% alcohol.
- *Wear sunglasses + light clothing*: Reduces glare and keeps your body temperature down so you stay focused.
- *Never leave kids or pets in the car*: Even with windows cracked, interior temps can hit 50-60°C in under 10 minutes.

*Pack an emergency kit*
Water, phone charger, jumper cables, basic tools, and a reflective triangle. If you break down, stay with the car in shade and wait for help.

One last thing: hot asphalt reduces tyre grip. Increase your following distance by at least 2 seconds.
