1: What is Prompt Engineering?
1. Introduction
Think of an AI (like ChatGPT or Gemini) as an incredibly smart assistant who knows almost everything but cannot read your mind. To get the perfect answer, you have to give the perfect instruction.

Prompt: The input, question, or instruction you give to the AI.
Prompt Engineering: The art and science of phrasing your request so the AI gives you the exact output you want.

2. The Golden Rule of Prompting
Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO): If you ask a vague question, you will get a vague answer. If you ask a specific, well-structured question, you will get a brilliant answer.

3. The Anatomy of a Perfect Prompt
A great prompt usually contains four key elements:
1 Role (Optional but powerful): Tell the AI who it should act as (e.g., "Act as a fitness coach".
2 Task: Tell the AI what to do (e.g., "Create a workout plan".
3 Context: Give background information (e.g., "I am a beginner and have 30 minutes a day".
4 Constraint/Format: Tell it how to answer (e.g., "Use a bulleted list and keep it under 200 words".

4. Bad vs. Good Prompt Example
Bad Prompt (Vague)
Tell me how to lose weight."

Good Prompt (Engineered)
Act as a professional nutritionist. Create a 3-day healthy meal plan for a vegetarian who wants to lose weight. Keep the meals simple and budget-friendly."

Your First Homework

Try this right now with any AI tool:
1 Ask: "Write a story." (See how generic it is).
2 Now try: "Act as a children's book author. Write a 3-sentence funny story about a cat who is afraid of mice." Notice the difference! Which AI tool are you currently using to practice your prompts?
