Lesson 4: Few-Shot Prompting (Teaching Through Examples)
1. Introduction
Up until now, you have learned how to use specificity, assign roles (personas), and apply constraints to control your AI. However, sometimes words alone are not enough to explain a complex style, tone, or formatting rule.
This is where Few-Shot Prompting comes in. Instead of just telling the AI what you want, you show it by providing one or more examples.
Zero-Shot Prompting: Giving a request with zero examples.
Few-Shot Prompting: Giving a request with a few examples (usually 1 to 3) to demonstrate the desired pattern.
2. Why Use Examples?
AI models are incredible at pattern recognition. If you give the AI a pattern of input and output, it will analyze the structure, tone, and logic, and then replicate it perfectly for your new data.
This is highly effective for:
Writing matching headlines or social media copy.
Classifying data or sentiment analysis.
Formatting complex outputs where text descriptions fail.
3. The Blueprint for Few-Shot Prompting
When writing a few-shot prompt, structure it with clear headings or labels like Input: and Output: or Example:.

Structure:
[Context/Role]
Example 1:
Input: [Sample 1]
Output: [Desired Result 1]

Example 2:
Input: [Sample 2]
Output: [Desired Result 2]

New Task:
Input: [Your actual data]
Output:

4. Zero-Shot vs. Few-Shot Example

Headline: Master Your Money: Track, Save, and Grow Your Wealth Effortlessly.

Headline:"
